‼️ TrackHat sensor V2 eye safety notice - Please read ‼️
Today, if was brought to our attention by a new customer that a competing company has been spreading misleading information about our product. This is disappointing—not only because we go to great lengths to ensure the safety of the Sensor V2, but also because we’ve always chosen to avoid making dishonest claims about others. Unfortunately, we're now forced to respond to the deliberate spread of misinformation aimed at pushing outdated alternatives:
The Trackhat Sensor V2 uses infrared LEDs for precision head tracking, but we know safety matters — especially for long gaming sessions.
That’s why we're proud to say that the sensor V2 was designed to meet IEC 62471:2006, the international gold standard for photobiological safety from optical light sources.
💡 Here’s how that works:
➡️ At a typical desk distance of 30 cm, the total infrared exposure from the Sensor V2 is just 2.3 W/m².
🌐 The safety limit under IEC 62471 is 100 W/m² — and that’s for extended exposures of up to 3 hours.
✅ That means the Trackhat Sensor V2 falls more than 40 times BELOW the safe limit for extended use!
🤔 Here's a comparison: That's around 2-3% of the amount of light energy emitted by... a PC monitor!
🖥️ A regular monitor emits 50–100 W/m² of visible light
💡 High-brightness HDR monitors can go up to 150+ W/m²
Even if you were to sit with the sensor V2 just 5 cm from your face (don't... it won't work!) — it’s STILL within safe exposure levels for continuous use.
📌 Bottom line:
The Sensor V2 is safer than your monitor. No eye strain 👁️ no risk ⚡ and zero compromises on performance 💯
Outdated clip-style head trackers require infrared LEDs to be positioned much closer to your eyes and skin to work properly. Now, we're not saying that's a problem, but considering that the competitor in question often releases products suspiciously similar to ours (a few years later) it would be odd if they left out their own warning when they eventually launch a face-tracking sensor of their own...
I hope our competitors can return to doing business based off of the benefits of their respective products, rather than trying to make disingenuous claims about ours. Cheers!
